Tanemahuta first lived between Ranginui and Papatuanuku but then they got sick of living in the dark so tanemahuta pushed them apart. Ranginui was crying with rain Tawhirimatea got angry. He threw tornado it at his brothers. Tawhirimatea clawed out his eyes and threw it in the sky. His eyes became the MATARIKI.
